The Blend | Cape Town

The Blend Cape Town | Milk and CookiesI keep thinking about The Blend.   Maybe I miss it a little bit, is that weird?  I guess a little.  Some places just fit.  Some places are without.   This place was just right; warm and friendly and I don’t know if it was because I’d spoken to Julie the owner before I met her, or if it was how nice her partner David was.  It didn’t matter, I dug his firm handshake and Julie’s warm placement of her hands when she spoke.  It was all part of the certain atmosphere.

Julie’s cool because she comes from Switzerland, her different accent and wonder about where she came from, as she simultaneous  tells me about her little shop and points to menus and pictures around the room, is the perfect interactive story for this sweet little coffee shop and eatery.

It’s like “hey, come in.”

Then Julie gets to talking and tells you she’s got this little coffee wars thing going on, a healthy competition between all coffee distributors so you can choose if you want your cuppa Kupa or if you’re a Deluxe type , Tribe too and she’s in the market for a few new blends.  It’s coffee heaven for all your bratty friends who wont drink anything they wont drink.  We’ve all got those irritating frenemies.

After this and that and much debate about what’s best on the menu, we finally ordered.

Is it true?  Cannot wait to get there for breakfast, something like R45 for a 5 ingredient omelet and coffee.

Go forth and write on their wall.

Now to the part I long waited for after not being able to make a quick decision.

The chicken and pesto sandwich on rye: decadently filling, uber affordable for a weekly lunch spot and made by Lusanda.  Thanks Lusanda.

The sandwiches are delicious with gluten-free bread, which I don’t even understand how I couldn’t taste the difference, and they are so inexpensive you could go there once  a week, or bring your computer and use it as your office.

Bacon, brie, and fig sandwich on sourdough with greens.   And, I keep saying I’m going to stop eating bacon, honestly, how will that work?

Nerdy and impressed with the super coolness of this design in my coffee.

P.S. They have an indefinite special going on that’s R10 coffee… which is crazy. Might as well go there.
