Of all things, I love diary the most; chocolate, ice cream, milk, cream, butter, silky smooth yogurt, it’s the most glorious of all food groups, the decadence, the dessert, my heart is heavily attached to the cholesterol it provides.
The Cape Dairy Experience is the closest to an American State Fair in South Africa, all the farmers proud of their stock, all the tractor trailers on display, a proud boastfulness of produce. All that was missing was a southern drawl and maybe some fried oreos, fry it up!
A few pics of cows and chocolate and other dairy delights in the sunshine of Stellenbosch with proud agricultural South Africans.
This is why this country has such amazing produce:
Chocolate demo from Huguenot Chocolates and some tasters: bonus jonas!
Soft and sweet homemade toffee by Sweet Temptations.
Ug, goat cheese, I love you.
Proud dairy farmers and competitors. It’s so frickin’ amazing that these guys love these cows so so much.
Let’s take a second and just bow our heads in respect for the best mozzarella I’ve had in South Africa. Puglia cheese is in stores across the country and it’s out of control delicious. It’s run by an Italian man who obviously loves and prides himself in the ability to make cheese like home, and people, I’m telling you, this shiz is out of control!
Machines I know nothing about but look awesome!
And, the junior champion, and by junior they mean that cow was as tall as a grown man and totally pissed she had to pose for pictures. Like “wtf, I’m a cow gimmie a break and milk me.”
If you have the chance to go next year, for sure go. It’s a beautiful thing to know where your food comes from and what type of people are making it.
